Why I love The King of Rhythm and you will love it too!

 🎶 🎵 🎶 “El Bárbaro del Ritmo”  🎶 🎵 🎶

Benny More was one of the most brilliant artists of Cuban music 🎼 in all its genres.

He was born on August 24, 1919, in Pueblo Nuevo neighborhood, Santa Isabel de las Lajas near Cienfuegos city. Descendant of an Afro-Cuban family was the result of illegitimate unions that did not recognize their children. He was the oldest of 18 brothers and his mother confirms that at six years old he made his first musical instrument with a board and a spool of thread.

He studied until the 4th grade when he had to leave the school to work in the field to be able to help his family
👪, he dedicated his free time to recreating with his songs 🎤 to friends standing out for his faculty as a repentista.

With 16 years old he participated in his first musical group in Las Lajas. After performing different jobs to save some money
💰 he moved to Havana where he lives in precarious conditions, earning his living by playing in cafes and bars 🍻 where he then passed his hat 🎩 to receive some benefit 💰 from those who listened to him.

His first success was winning the first prize in his second presentation in a radio contest
📻. It was then that he could have a stable job integrating the "Cauto" quartet and his debut as a professional singer 🎤 was his entry to the Miguel Matamoros set.

He was gifted with an expressive tenor voice and despite not having any musical instruction
🎼 he organized his "Giant Band" with a unique sound where he showed off his talent as a composer, singer 🎤 and director.

Because of his national and international charisma and popularity, he overflowed any space where he presented himself with his "Tejano" hat and the cane that he used as a baton, they were two symbols that identified him.

Benny, as we remembered him with affection, was an authentic Cuban, a simple man who offered a dance show in a luxurious cabaret as well as a street release. He rejected the powerful, helped the poor and died in 1963 without material fortune. His life is a legend, his recordings are heard through all time and endure in history as the symbol of Cuban music.
