Cuba is a country rich in religious diversity, mainly Catholicism that began with the Spanish conquest, and Santería which is the legacy of our African ancestors, slaves who were brought to Cuba from Africa because the indigenous community of Cuba quickly became extinct due to the exploitation to which it was subjected by the conquerors.
The mixture of different cultures from Europeans and Africans has led to a legitimate religious syncretism. Today Cuban is a melting pot of religions and this mixt is what today form the Cuban nationality. The Catholic Church has deep roots in Cuba an example of this is El Temple, built in 1827, a representative memorial of the City, in which is an image of the Pilar Virgin to whom the Spanish sailors thanked for having crossed to the Atlantic and to have arrived at the "new world".
Another example is the church “Catedral de la Inmaculada Concepción de María”, better known as the Catedral de San Cristóbal de La Habana, an explicit name of the influence of the Catholic religion since the arrival of the Spaniards in Cuba. The pediment of the Cathedral of Havana has a Spanish style column that bears the bells and the other column is Italian style as a tribute to the Vatican, both highlight the Catholic, Apostolic and Roman character of the Cathedral.
The slaves brought to Cuba from different parts of Africa, carried with them their traditions but they were brutally punished if they were seen practicing some of their rites. This led to the search for alternatives, associated with Catholic deities, to venerate theirs. Hybridization and juxtaposition of cultures was a slow process, which acquired a tremendous force until today.
Santeria occurred in the process of defining Cuban nationality as a result of this integration of African and Spanish religious ethnic elements. In the Santería they survive cults to the divinities or orishas of African origin, essentially Yoruba, under the veneration to the images of Catholic saints.
Religious manifestations such as Muslims, Baptists, Russian Orthodox, Greek Orthodox, Judaism and others are also part of the religious context of the country.

Cuba es un país rico en diversidad religiosa, principalmente catolicismo que comenzó con la conquista española, y Santería, que es el legado de nuestros antepasados africanos, esclavos que fueron traídos a Cuba desde África porque la comunidad indígena de Cuba se extinguió rápidamente debido a la explotación a lo que fue sometida por los conquistadores.
La mezcla de diferentes culturas de europeos y africanos ha llevado a un sincretismo religioso. Hoy Cuba es un crisol de religiones y esta mezcla es lo que hoy forma la nacionalidad cubana.
La Iglesia Católica tiene raíces profundas en Cuba, un ejemplo de esto es El Templete, construido en 1827, un monumento representativo de la Ciudad, en el cual se encuentra una imagen de la Virgen del Pilar a quien los marineros españoles agradecieron haber cruzado al Atlántico y llegado al "nuevo mundo".
Otro ejemplo es la iglesia "Catedral de la Inmaculada Concepción de María", más conocida como la Catedral de San Cristóbal de La Habana, un nombre explícito de la influencia de la religión católica desde la llegada de los españoles a Cuba. El frontón de la Catedral de La Habana tiene una columna de estilo español que lleva las campanas y la otra columna es de estilo italiano como un tributo al Vaticano, ambos destacan el carácter católico, apostólico y romano de la Catedral.

Los esclavos traídos a Cuba desde diferentes partes de África trajeron consigo sus tradiciones, y eran castigados brutalmente si se les veía practicando sus ritos. Esto llevó a la búsqueda de alternativas, asociadas con las deidades católicas, para venerar las suyas. La hibridación y la yuxtaposición de culturas fue un proceso lento, que adquirió una fuerza tremenda hasta el día de hoy.
La Santeria ocurrió en el proceso de definición de la nacionalidad cubana como resultado de la integración de elementos étnicos religiosos africanos y españoles. En la Santería sobreviven cultos a las divinidades u orishas de origen africano, esencialmente Yoruba, bajo la veneración a las imágenes de santos católicos.
Tambièn forman parte del contexto religioso del país manifestaciones religiosas tales como Musulmanes, Bautistas, Ortodoxos Rusos, Ortodoxos Griegos, Judaismo entre otras.
