Santiago de Cuba is one of the first of seven villages 馃彔 馃彙 founded by the Spanish conquistador Diego Vel谩zquez in 1515 and was considered the first capital of the island until 1556 when San Crist贸bal de La Habana was named the capital of Cuba.
The first black slaves arrived to the country through Santiago bay, which gave rise to the fusion of our African and Spanish roots. Considered the second capital of the country is surrounded by mountains and sea with its hospitable and cheerful people. The city emanates history that intertwines with culture and offers a variety of sites that will not go unnoticed by those who visit it.
“Ciudad H茅roe de Cuba” (Cuba's Heroic City), name awarded because of the participation of the people in the struggles for the freedom of the Cubans. Note that there is no street or corner in Santiago that has not been trodden by a hero.
It's steep streets, colonial buildings with large windows and narrow balconies in addition to the beauty of a natural 馃寗 and exotic scenery make Santiago de Cuba a special city.
From Havana to Santiago you can travel by Viazul buses 馃殟, the trip takes around 14 hours with intermediate stops. You can also get there by plane ✈in about an hour and a half approx.

Santiago de Cuba es una de las primeras siete villas fundadas por el conquistador espa帽ol Diego Vel谩zquez en 1515 y considerada la primera capital de la isla hasta 1556 cuando se nombr贸 a San Crist贸bal de La Habana como la capital de Cuba.
Los primeros esclavos negros llegaron al pa铆s por la bah铆a santiaguera lo que dio origen a la fusi贸n de nuestras ra铆ces africanas y espa帽olas. Considerada la segunda capital del pa铆s est谩 rodeada de monta帽as y mar junto a su gente hospitalaria y alegre. La ciudad emana historia que entrelazada con la cultura ofrece una variedad de sitios que no pasan desapercibidos para quienes la visitan.
La “Ciudad H茅roe de Cuba”, nombre adjudicado por la participaci贸n del pueblo en las luchas por la libertad de los cubanos. Hacemos notar que en Santiago no existe una calle ni un rinc贸n que no haya pisado por un h茅roe.
Sus calles escolanadas, coloniales edificaciones con grandes ventanales y estrechos balcones adem谩s de la belleza de su escenario natural 馃寗 y ex贸tico hacen de Santiago de Cuba una ciudad especial.
Desde La Habana hasta Santiago usted puede trasladarse en los 贸mnibus Viazul 馃殟. El viaje tiene una duraci贸n de alrededor de 14 horas con paradas intermedias. Tambi茅n puede tomar vuelos ✈ que en 1 hora y media approx. arribar谩 a Santiago.
